The Lifestyle Harry Smith Complex was completed in 2007 for South Lanarkshire Council Social Work Resources. It is a resource day centre for adults with physical and learning disabilities and replaces the existing outdated 1970's facility. The complex is single storey and its triangular plan form and massing reflects the site constraints and the client's brief. This form and orientation embodies passive energy saving principles to ensure optimum day lighting and natural ventilation throughout the building. Social inclusion and sustainability have been demonstrated through the intentional blurring of the user / public interface by maintaining universal access to facilities which can be used by the general public seven days per week.
