Once a department store, this site had been vacant for many years, causing the street to be dark and intimidating. Facing the side of Marks & Spencer, the client desired a bright elevation, but could not envisage how a multi-storey car park could acheive this. Our solution was 600sqms of etched glass fins. Angled to maintain natural ventillation, illuminated from the interior, raised above inclined double height glass shopfronts. The two elements, linked by a glazed stair tower with illuminted light pipe, an "electric flagpole", signify the night-time leisure uses within. The project included a retained stone facade.
