The brief was to identify development sites, existing constraints to development, provide analysis, provide a basis for a future growth strategy, improve urban design and public realm, identify economic oportunities, increase attractiveness of Kirkintilloch to visitors, place civic heritage centrally in future strategies, consult stakeholders, and present material in a coherent manner. We analysed the physical and economic constraints and made recommendations, primarily the re-aligning of the A8006 to release Cowgate from being the linear development it has been since the middle ages. The Masterplan was well received and various elements of the Masterplan process are being implemented.
