Wormistoune, Crail

Simpson and Brown Architects

The category B-listed Wormistoune House contains the remnants of an L plan semi-fortified late medieval house at its core. A castle style restoration was completed by the previous owner.

Simpson & Brown have been involved with various alterations for the current owners including the repair and restoration of the stable block, the construction of the garden pavilions, and the design and planting of the walled garden.

The house proposals involved an upwards extension to Wormistoune House: new steeper roof pitches with crow-stepped gables; new access and stair into the garden from the first floor; new stair tower to provide second route of escape; internal alterations; and alterations to the block along the garden wall to the north. The castle style restoration was adopted and the proposals drew from regional historic precedent of the same period as the original build of Wormistoune.
