Kingsbarns Distillery

Simpson and Brown Architects

Kingsbarns is a new malt whisky distillery near St Andrews. The external historic building fabric of the category B-listed East Newhall Farm Steading was preserved to create a visitor centre, in conjunction with a new structure for the micro-distillery. The horse-gang forms the visitor entrance to the distillery with new openings to the café and shop. A contemporary timber and glass structure houses the new café facilities.

The single-storey south end of the east range and the entire south range of byres and stabling is largely given over to the visitor centre with the impressive central doocot showcasing the first cask of whisky off the stills. The two storey east range forms the circulation hub of the visitor accommodation providing access on the lower level to the interpretation and distilling areas, as well as the shop and cafe.
