Dunfermline Carnegie Library and Galleries

Richard Murphy Architects Ltd

A new cultural centre in historic Dunfermline with museum space, art galleries, a local history reading room, children’s library, cafe and meeting rooms integrating with the world’s first Andrew Carnegie Library and a B Listed former bank.

The new building is organised as a top- lit internal street, criss-crossed by bridges to reach various facilities at upper levels and connecting with the existing library.

A new reading room for the study of local history, organised across a three-tiered section looks out at the Abbey and a new children’s library, opens directly into the garden.
