The new Stobhill Hospital is one of two new ACAD (ambulatory care and diagnostic) facilities procured for NHS Greater Glasgow Clyde under PPP with Canmore/Balfour Beatty. This new type of hospital deals with about 80% of the patient load of a district general hospital by concentrating on outpatient consultation and day surgery and therefore has a high throughput of patients, about 2,000 per day. Very great care was taken to design a functional building with clear wayfinding and a non-hospital feel, and the completed building has been rapturously acclaimed and recognised as potentially the way forward with this type of hospital.
