The Adelphi is one of few remaining Moderne buildings in London. Purcell was commissioned to refurbish the foyer, reception area and lift lobbies. The intention was to retain surviving original features and design an interior appropriate to the buildings age.
This included five bespoke carpets designed to evoke the character of Moderne and new furniture and lighting, including a bronze lighting feature. A new reception desk of travertine marble and walnut veneers echoes the original materials and decorative metalwork screens enclose seating areas. The design has transformed the space, creating a modern feel that is sympathetic to its original style.
