The development at Grandholm Mills, a former linen works, represents of one of ScotlandÍs first 21st Century Urban Villages. This ultimately provided 290 homes, consisting of detached, semi-detached, terraced and flatted dwellings. It also included a care home, office and retail space, restaurants and a museum. The oldest, four-storey, mill building was retained, along with the mill lade and turbine hall, and this formed the centre of the village. The mill building was converted to loft apartments, with commercial space at the ground level. This became the heart of the development from of this model village layout.
