The "Helix Project" has delivered a visionary visitor attraction namely - two 30m high horses head sculptures, called "The Kelpies", by internationally recognized Scottish Sculptor Andy Scott. Nicoll Russell won the related architectural project which was secured following an open international competition managed by RIAS Consultancy for a visitor centre which is now complete and a Kelpies Experience in one of the two heads which is ongoing.
The project is jointly funded by Falkirk Council, British Waterways, Central Scotland Forest Trust and The Big Lottery. Their brief asked for two elements: a 500m2 visitor centre and the visitor experience to be located in one of the Kelpies sculptures. In turn both elements had to respect the artistic integrity of "the Kelpies".
