This project required a sensitive response to the site, a remote rural highland estate.
We obtained planning consent for construction of 11 log cabins, managers house, reception with staff flat and services building all set on a hillside within an ancient semi-natural birchwood with archaeological features.
We co-ordinated specialists for elements of construction and detailing together with integration of services and fittings into log construction. The cabins are constructed from western red cedar logs which have exceptional thermal performance.
Our involvement from inception to completion was over a period of 8 years during which time we set up and managed contracts for the infrastructure, microhydro scheme, cabin shell construction and cabin fit outs.
The microhydro scheme has 190m pipeline laid between the supply loch / new intake weir and an underground turbine house. A 75kW turbine supplies the site with electricity.
Cabins are heated by biomass (pellet boilers) and wood burner stoves and the site has a private water supply from borehole. Drainage from the site passes through a biological treatment plant prior to discharge into the river.
