House at Stenton Gallery

Liston Architects

The project unifies a cluster of traditional cottages which had been adapted in different times as a pub, art gallery and house. The historical nature of the street facade to the front is reinstated. To the back, a timber and glass 'cloister' ties together the building parts in a simple and elegant way. The previously labyrinthine circulation is simplified and the various levels are linked by an interrupted straight stair. The garden becomes the heart of the house; Heat from the ground, via a ground source heat pump, provides space heating and hot water.
