The A-listed Speirs Centre in Alloa is one of the best surviving examples of a late 19th century public baths and gymnasium, according to Historic Scotland. It required refurbishment as a sustainable, community facility that would become a catalyst for social, economic and environmental regeneration.
Use of existing rooms was optimised while accommodation provided for a new Central Library, Registrars office, Family History Centre, council offices and a museum. The easternmost section was replaced with a new extension that provided the necessary accommodation and created a new urban frontage. The existing chimneystack, one of Alloas most prominent landmarks, was repaired and retained.
