Opened in 1787, this multi-purpose venue sits at the heart of Edinburgh’s World Heritage site. The project restored the building to its previous splendour, a unique and prestigious venue in the heart of the city. Much as over its previous two centuries, the continuing uses of the building include dance, comedy, civic receptions, theatre, conferencing and banquets.
The project delivered a welcoming and calm new reception, carefully restored and reinstated historic features and plasterwork, reinstated an historically appropriate and sensitive decorative scheme, redeveloped unused ground floor spaces, introduced a new restaurant and created a new undergallery bar.
