This rear extension in a conservation area links the raised ground floor level of the main house with the lower rear garden, with an open-plan kitchen and breakfasting area which overlooks a family garden room. Planning requirements to avoid over-shadowing of a neighbouring property led to the adoption of a contemporary design using white render and cedar cladding to contrast with the existing house. Large strategically placed glazing allows views from within the main house out to the garden, while the open-plan raised kitchen allows interaction for the occupants and provides a visual connection with the garden.
