Ageing facilities were replaced with the largest capacity high school in Edinburgh, catering for 1400 pupils. Modern sporting amenities are incorporated, with a 25m swimming pool, games hall, gymnasium and two all-weather sports pitches for school and community use.
The clean white render of the upper levels lends a calm and mature feel to the building while low level areas and features are finished in robust, precast stone blocks, highlighting features on the facade and forming a reference point to surrounding stone villas. Strong emphasis was placed on the design of breakout spaces to encourage departmental collaboration and bespoke independent learning areas.
