Located within the UNESCO Edinburgh World Heritage Site, the project involves the regeneration of previously walled and inaccessible private landholdings, creating a new village within the medieval context of Edinburgh Old Town.
Lost streets and passageways have been reinstated between cohesive, yet varied, contemporary buildings, housing more than 1100 new student rooms and an array of on-site student resources, amenities and social spaces. At the heart is an expansive communal kitchen and social space unique in the UK. A layered landscape sets out a fractured and angular geometry, referencing the geological/ volcanic context of the Salisbury Crags.
