Glasgow based craftsman, Paul Hodgkiss, requested the assistance of inkdesign in the refurbishment of a former Victorian laundry. The proposal was to expose all existing structure, internally and externally, to identify any historic aspects. An insulated concrete slab with underfloor heating was installed. The masonry structure was cleaned and repointed. An insulated roof was installed and all windows were replaced. The new mezzanine level was designed to maximise daylight and introduce double height spaces to allow natural daylight into the deep plan. The new structure was left exposed to emphasise the structure of the historic building resulting in a bright showroom space.
