Loft House, Ormiston Hall

Ian Parsons Architect

Low Cost, Self-Build Conversion of a Stable to a demonstration energy efficient house using partial Solar Heating and a Wood Burning Stove. 'B' listed as part of the Steading and Ormiston Old Hall group. The SE facing roof slope receives sunlight throughout the year. The central door suggested a central staircase with bedrooms on either side on the Ground Floor and first floor open plan living, dining and kitchen area to maximise views and sunlight. The warm air solar heating system uses the Attic as a plenum. Controls are linked with the wood fired stove running the Ground Floor underfloor heating and domestic hot water.
