This project involved building a new extension to the historic Kirkhouse in Edinburgh’s Grassmarket to provide new training facilities as well as a multi-purpose rental venue to bring in much-needed income for social enterprise activities.
A glass facade was constructed along the frontage to bring light into a new double height hub/entrance/cafe space. The main, double height, hall sits directly behind the hub and employs a series of large rooflights to provide views up to mature trees whilst allowing light to pour into the deep, enclosed site. The hall has been fitted out with technology appropriate for a small theatre venue.
