Inverleith Composting Shed

Groves-Raines Architects Studios Ltd.

Built within the grounds of an Edinburgh house remodelled by GRA in 2003 the composting shed is an organic extension of the landscaping works. It is formed using a similar technique to basket weaving but uses woven rebar which is a standard construction material often hidden within the fabric of buildings. The organic form embraces a 5 ton boulder on the site and is located at the furthest corner of the garden, providing a point of interest for garden visitors and for walkers on the adjacent Water of Leith Walkway.
