Belmont House

Groves-Raines Architects Studios Ltd.

Exemplary conservation, repair and upgrading of a Palladian style villa built in 1776 in the remote island of Unst, Shetland. The most northerly classical house in Britain, Belmont will provide self-catering accommodation and a venue for functions. Built in 1775 for Thomas Mouat of Garth, this small Georgian villa has retained most of its architectural details, such as fine panelling, fireplaces, cornices and box beds. The project received financial assistance from various trusts and organisations including Historic Scotland and Shetland Amenity Trust.
