This new-build house sits on a rocky promontory by Loch Stockinish on the Isle of Harris. Public rooms and bedrooms face south with views to Skye. The timber-kit house was clad with a simple palette of materials. Natural slate, smooth render, dark brick and large panels of glazing create a clean contemporary appearance. The T-shaped plan form produces tall narrow gables which seek to harmonise with traditional building proportions, in contrast to standard kit houses which frequently have low roof pitches and non-traditional materials. A south-facing unheated glazed space makes use of passive solar gain to reduce running costs.
