The property is within a B-listed villa and is at first floor level at the rear - so an extension to provide modern kitchen, living and shower room accommodation had to be entered from what was a first floor window, dropping down to garden level within a glass and stainless steel tower. The extensive glazing was required to satisfy Planning Authorities, who did not want any part of the building to be visible above the old stone garden wall from the street. This project came runner-up in the Edinburgh Architectural Association Awards, Small Project Category 2009.
