St Machar Academy

GPA Humphries

GPAH were appointed by Aberdeen City Council to investigate and solve an ongoing historical problem with a leaking gymnasium roof at St Machar Academy which was causing significant damage to the gym's hardwood flooring. Originally clad in concrete tiles the expansive pavilion roof had leaked almost since it had been first built. GPAH recommended stripping the tiled roof and installing a replacement Kal-Zip aluminium standing seam roof in off the mill finish along with upgrading the rainwater management system. The project was successful, completely eradicating the water ingress problem despite the installation being complicated by unseasonably wet weather conditions.
