The client wanted to retire to a single storey bungalow in a wooded setting. He wanted as much light as possible into the new open plan house along with low energy costs. The design concept is based on traditional atrium dwelling design from early greek times. The inner glazed atrium has all rooms accessed off this central area with minimal corridor space required . Despite the large building area and substantial full height glazing, the building achieves extremely low annual energy costs due to high levels of insulation, air tightness, and underfloor heating powered from an air source heat recovery unit.
