Balnaglack Cottage benefitted from a stunning situation but failed to capitalise on this setting. The building was poorly built from local stone rubble, the outlook was introverted resulting in a dark and gloomy interior. Three original stone walls were retained and combined in a contemporary layout to fuse tradition and modernity. Sustainability and low maintenance were key factors and ground source heat pumps, under-floor heating, highly insulated external walls, self cleaning glass, a wood burning stove and natural ventilation were all incorporated. As views of the Moray Firth and Castle Stuart Golf Links are extensive, the property was renamed Golf Cottage.
