The preferred option in this project to expand a stone cottage was a pair of matching timber extensions - a porch at the main entrance and a dining extension to the kitchen - that would complement, but not match, the existing house.
Both extensions use the same materials, painted board-on-board external cladding which sits well with the nearby mature woodland. The Spanish- slate roof is extruded to provide shelter at the porch, solar shading to the glazed gable wall and shelter at the dining extension. A cantilevered burr elm bench at the porch provides a spot to pull off muddy boots.
