St. George's School for Girls - New Junior School Hall and Gym

DRD Architects Ltd

Following on the midnight collapse of the roof of the 50-year old hall under the load of snow in the winter of 2011-12 we were commissioned to design a new hall and gymnasium to meet the present needs of the school. This involved the constraints of meeting both the requirements of the insurers, the continuing use of the immediately adjoining school classrooms and the difficulties of site access across a weight restricted bridge into a school playground. A brick type was sourced to match the remaining adjacent parts of the school and the latest technology for both PE and audio-visual presentations incorporated along with improved heating and insulation.
