This project was won in a limited competition and the building design incorporates a stepped monopitch section with timber open truss configuration to allow daylight to diffuse double height spaces internally while its orientation allows open views out over Crossapol Bay with bunded walls to protect and reduce the scale of the building. Robust low maintenance materials of metal roof, render walls with cedar cladding and timber trellis articulate the entrance area.
The low lying site provided the opportunity to erect a 6.5kw wind turbine fed direct into the grid to offset electrical usage of the hall.
