The marine environment of the site, on the Clyde estuary in Helensburgh, meant careful consideration of materials was needed to reduce maintenance requirements and ensure longevity in this 36,500 square feet supermarket. The timber “gullwing” roof was constructed using an innovative yet durable product, and the design team embraced this innovative solution to achieve the desired aesthetic without the high maintenance implications of timber.
The use of hand-crafted natural stone for the primary facades gives life to the building and reflects aspirations of high quality. Waitrose Helensburgh has become the benchmark store that sets the standard for the quality of new developments within the brand.
