Special Needs Housing, Glasgow

Coltart Earley Architecture

Our Brief for this project was to provide living accommodation for 8 people with complex physical and mental disabilities who require a high level of support for day-to-day living.

The main requirement was to create a home-like environment which was as non-institutional as possible. The result of our iterative approach to design is a very human scale building, which stimulates the senses in difference ways: the touch of a curved wall; the play of light through glass blocks; the sound of rain on a glass canopy; and the various stimulating delights achieved with the sensory garden.

“By listening and researching Coltart Earley arrived at a creative and functional design, sensitive to the needs of the disabled tenants.” Barbara Anderson, Homelink
