School Refurbishment, Johnstone High School

Coltart Earley Architecture

The Client brief was to create a 21st Century learning environment. The project included installation of new home economics, science and art based teaching classrooms and refurbishment of the remaining teaching, support accommodation, assembly, kitchen and dining areas. Disabled access was resolved by the strategic location of a new lift providing circulation links for disabled users to six of the seven teaching floors. The interior design scheme introduced strategic colour demarcation of the different floor levels within the building whilst feature colours are used to articulate teaching and support zones. We worked with pupils developing thematic signage based on topic relevant quotes to delineate teaching departments.
