Beinn Chiochan

catriona tanner : architect

Beinn Chiochan is a light filled, spacious, contemporary family home that fits well into its rural context, connecting views and reflecting a strong link to the local vernacular architecture and the surrounding landscape.

The layout ensures that the family room, with kitchen, dining and seating area is at the heart of the house, connecting all spaces. Living spaces face the road and private rooms and bedrooms address the natural garden setting.

It fits well into its setting, in scale, proportion and use of materials, introducing a contemporary palette that links to the traditional. Scottish larch is used throughout with red zinc on the roof giving a nod to the 'wrinky tin' red roofs in the area.

The house has been designed to Section 6 Aspect Silver Active targeting Passive House Standards.
