Argyll College Lochgilphead

Burnet Bell

A phased masterplan has been implemented to provide a Construction Skills Centre, centrally located within Argyll.

The site is gently sloping, framed by attractive woodland, and has beautiful views out over Loch Fyne to Ardrishaig. It provides an ideal environment to provide a first class training facility.

The first three phases have been completed. The principal building has been designed in an L-shape comprising a classroom wing and a workshop wing. The L shape, anchored in the north east corner, permits the classroom wing accommodation to extend to the west in the future, and the workshop wing to extend to the south.

The classroom wing plan is single aspect with an extensively glazed corridor benefiting from views across the Loch. The wing is skewed so that it runs parallel to the site boundary, and gives an interesting connection to the higher workshop block.

Detailed design has incorporated extensive use of renewable energy solutions.
