Smithy Cottage Eco Home

AXN Architecture Ltd

A traditional / contemporary hybrid dwelling that achieved planning permission for a new build house on a restricted site in Laurencekirk. A futuristic 'A' energy rated hermetically sealed building that Achieved A ratings for energy use and CO2 emissions. Green technologies used in this sustainable new build property include: Ground source Heat pump, Heat recovery, Photovoltaic panels and super Insulated walls and windows. The Internal layout is flexible to accommodate a range of functions. From opening the whole ground floor up for a large party to having smaller intimate family meals the plan is flecxible. The detailing is crisp and modern. To satisfy planning restrictions we opted for a one and a half storey dwelling and achieved a feeling of greater height through the use of dominant vertical windows and areas of vertical timber cladding. The Timber cladding brings warmth to guests on arrival. We incorporated two large dormer windows on the East elevation in order to increase the usable floor area of the family room and bedrooms as well as allowing more light into the building.
