The site had a complex planning history and required considerable earthworks to comply with the client's requirements. The principal view is across Loch Fyne to the north-west but the design seeks to maximize solar gain from the south. The entrance is combined with a double height conservatory, which also contains the stair. 300 mm of cellulose insulation forms part of the I-stud timber frame, which is clad with a panel system, with acrylic render. Underfloor heating is linked to a ground source heat pump. A masonry stove provides supplementary heating in the open plan ground floor. The roof has PV panels.
