New extension, Colintraive

Arbour

One of Colintraive's most important historic buildings, The Old Manse faces the Kyles of Bute. At the rear of the house a small wing contained the old kitchen, the roof of which had suffered from a clumsy 1980's loft conversion. In 2005, with the new owners, Arbour considered various options for altering the existing building. The final decision was to completely demolish the existing rear wing and rebuild to a more suitable plan and section and with greatly improved construction. All of the original stone, both rubble walling and sandstone dress-stone was reused and some additional sandstone sourced to match.
