Aquithie Cottage

Annie Kenyon Architects Limited

Aquithie Cottage is a historic dwelling dating from the 1800s. The cottage is located just outside Kemnay in rural Aberdeenshire, on a pleasant south facing site, featuring sloping ground with mature trees and stone dykes. The traditional lime and stone croft has been refurbished and extended to create a sustainable, contemporary family home, terraced in response to the natural contours of the site. Its orientation benefits from the sun's path throughout the day, with fine views across the countryside to the River Don. The design retains the vernacular style of the cottage, with lime mortar, Scots slate and Scottish larch used externally.
