David Livingstone Memorial Primary School was rebuilt under the South Lanarkshire Council Primary Schools renewal programme. The brief was for an 11 classroom primary school, nursery, SEN unit and associated facilities. The design of the new school splits the building into two distinct wings, one housing the nursery and early years classes and the other the later years classes with both wings enclosing a south facing external landscaped courtyard. This arrangement is designed to give the children a sense of progression through the school. The courtyard with the central dining hall gives the new school a 'heart' and focal point.
