West Kilbride Community initiative sought the redevelopment of the existing church into an arts and crafts centre. rather than try to emulate the historic form of the church, new elements internally and the extension to the building are contemporary, stood off the original fabric of the building.
The project brief required a large exhibition area, retail zone, two workshops, café, meeting room, and office. a key component of the brief was the ambition to meaningfully integrate the arts and crafts processes of production, display and sale. The final product fully meets the design brief and has far exceeded initial expectations.
