Phoenix Flowers

7N Architects

(in collaboration with RankinFraser Landscape Architecture)

The project brief called for the radical revitalisation of this crucial connection between the canal network around Speirs Locks and Glasgow City Centre, transforming it from an insecure environment to one which embraced pedestrians and cyclists, an exciting and welcoming entry point. it is also a catalyst to regeneration.

The project transforms this hostile place to a flowing, red resin surface, illuminated by a ribbon of fifty aluminium “flowers”. They evoke a memory of Phoenix Park that once occupied the site. it is deliberately “loud”, grabbing territory back, a slightly surreal swathe of colour, bringing joy into everyday experience.
