The inaugural RIAS Awards prompted a fantastic response. No fewer than 71 submissions were received. The judges had to select their shortlist from projects ranging from modest house extensions to multi-million pound educational, commercial and cultural buildings. Entries ranged from throughout Scotland and the judges shortlist of 23 includes projects from North Ayrshire to the Shetland Isles.
We are very grateful to all the entrants who have sanguinely adopted an “...it’s the taking part” attitude. As most architects are well aware, every
opportunity for promotion comes with the little glimmer of hope that somebody might see something they like. Commissions sometimes arise from the unlikeliest of sources.
The judges for this year’s award were Sholto Humphries PRIAS, Robert Dye RIBA of Robert Dye Associates, London, Dr Anne Lorne Gillies Hon FRIAS, Scottish Singer/Songwriter and Peter Wilson, Director of the Wood Studio at Napier University.
We are grateful to Forestry Commission Scotland and Wood for Good for their generous support of our special Timber Award.
