RIAS Presidential and Council Elections 2020

Call For Nominations

"I am pleased to announce that we are seeking candidates for President to lead the RIAS in 2020-21 alongside 5 RIAS Council Incorporation Representatives.

The nominations process is now open. Please don’t be shy about putting yourself forward or suggesting candidates for these roles.

There has never been a more vital time for the RIAS members to be active in Scotland’s conversations about architecture and the built environment. I believe, championing how architects address the climate emergency, help to unlock barriers to practice and provide the leadership to ensure chartered architects skills and expertise stay relevant are essential to the success of our work.”

RIAS President (1 year term – may be re-elected for second term)

Open to all Chartered Members registered with ARB.

All current Chartered Members (an individual+) are eligible to stand for the Presidency of the RIAS. The successful candidate will take up office at the AGM on 3rd June, and will then serve as RIAS President for a one -year term.

+ The RIAS will bring forward inclusive arrangements as part of its future constitutional changes, including joint candidacies and remuneration.

5 x Incorporation Representatives (Nationally Elected) on RIAS Council (4 places for 3 years and 1 place for 1 year)

Open to all Chartered Members registered with ARB.

Any current Chartered Member in the UK is eligible to stand for one of the 5 seats available in 2020.

Successful candidates for the Presidential and Council posts will become Trustees of the Incorporation.

Completed nominations must be uploaded to our online system HERE and received by the RIAS, by 5.00 p.m. on Monday 16th March 2020 in accordance with the guidance notes (and will be acknowledged).

The Process

Candidates Reviews and Hustings
Nominations will be available for consideration and review by the membership from Monday 3rd April for a period of over 3 weeks.

• voting from 27th April to 22nd May (noon)
• Announcement at AGM on 3rd June

Voting information will be delivered electronically where possible to reduce unnecessary printing and mailing.

Members who have recently changed their contact details are asked to update their information as soon as possible. This can be done by contacting the RIAS at, Tel: 0131 229 7545

Voting will open on 27th April and will remain open until noon on 22nd May.

The results will be announced at the RIAS AGM on 3rd June, when the President will be installed. All newly elected members will sit on the next Council meeting scheduled for 3rd June 2020.
